Unquowa Rep is very excited to announce it’s inaugural production will be BIG RIVER in CONCERT, starring JAVIER COLON. Originally premiering on Broadway in 1984,  BIG RIVER is the musical adaptation of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The stirring score by Roger Miller has its roots in bluegrass, classic country and soaring gospel and the book, by William Hauptmann, is perfection in its faithfulness to Twain’s original text.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome JAVIER COLON to our cast. An acclaimed international recording artist, Javier won the first season of the hit NBC TV Show, The Voice. Javier is set to play the pivotal role of Jim, a runaway slave in the pre-civil war south who’s determined to gain his freedom.

Big River is a unique coming of age tale, following Huck and Jim on a journey bound for the free states of the north. For Huck, it’s a grand adventure, but for Jim the dangers are deadly real, especially when a missed turn on the river steers their raft south and sends them deeper and deeper into slave country. Yet even in the face of mortal danger, Jim carries himself with unflagging dignity. His grace ultimately leads Huck to question society’s notions about right and wrong, good and evil, and whether all men truly are created equal.

BIG RIVER will run at FTC’s intimate Stage One for four performances only. June 15th and 16th at 8 pm, and June 17th at 2 and 8 pm. You’re not going to want to miss it.
